Danes have year after year been nominated as one of the happiest people in the world – on this website you can learn how to become happy as a Dane! It was originally created out of a love and longing for my home country while I lived with my Danish-American husband and two children in USA. Now, after twelve and a half years in the U.S. I have moved back to Denmark and realized that while it is a great place to be a tourist it is not the easiest place to actually move to! In fact, it was easier even for me as a Dane to move to the U.S. than back to Denmark!
Denmark is a very homogenous society, based on almost everyone being very similar and we are not too experienced with how to welcome foreigners. My wish with this website is to help bridge the gap between Denmark and its foreigners and make it easier to be new here and get social with the reserved Danes. Β
If you are an expat, immigrant or tourist in Denmark, I want to help you feel welcomed and guide you to experience Danish happiness and all the great things Denmark has to offer. Even though we Danes are hard to make friends with, we ARE actually nice, warm and fun – it can just take a (very) long time to get close to us but once you are in the friend zone with a Dane, you are in!
As a foreigner living here, you might wonder how Danes have reached those high happiness rankings… The weather is wet, dark and grey half the year and the people hardly talk in public spaces. So let me help you discover how to be happy as a Dane. The first step is the term “hygge” – roughly translated into coziness/togetherness. So lets have a cup of coffee together so I can welcome you and guide you to experience Danish happiness…

Wow! What a great idea, I can’t wait to hear and read more. I’m Danish-American and know there is more to DK than what we’ve been hearing on the news this past year. Can’t wait hear your “synspunkt”. π
